Cyclist Pays For Driver Distraction

On Monday, February 8, 2010, at 4:51 pm, a cyclist travelling in the south bound bike lane of Blanshard St was hit by at the intersection of Cloverdale Ave and Blanshard St.

The 36 year old cyclist was treated on the scene by provincial ambulance attendants and later transported to the Victoria General Hospital with a fractured knee.

The 29 year old driver was uninjured however he / she was ticketed for failing to yield while making a left turn at an intersection.

The Saanich Police are reminding motorists to watch for cyclists and pedestrians. All road users should exercise caution at intersections – they can be very busy with a number of distractions that can make decision making more difficult.
