As positions become available, the Saanich Police accept applicantions to supplement our Relief Telecommunications Operator’s team.

Telecommunications centre personnel must be extremely well trained, highly competent, and capable of handling a stressful work environment and shift work.  Candidates that are successful in the application process, which includes testing, a background check and a polygraph exam, will participate in a three week long "Basic Telecommunications Operator's Course" held at the Saanich Police Department.  During that time applicants will earn a training wage of $14.00 per hour. We are anticipating the course will take place later this spring.

If the candidates are successful in passing the course and completing two blocks of field training, they may be offered a relief Telecom Operator position.

The starting wage is $28.77 per hour plus 11% in lieu of benefits.  This is a relief position only, meaning, the successful candidates will be responsible for providing relief during staff holidays, sick time, and supplement staffing levels on weekends and evenings on a regular basis. Therefore, it is important candidates are available throughout the week. Flexibility is a crucial.

The minimum requirements needed to apply for these positions are:

  1. Completion of grade 12,
  2. Computer training and windows environment experience, and
  3. Typing skills (minimum 40 words per minute).
