Yesterday at about 3:30pm an off-duty Saanich Police officer witnessed what he thought was a break-in at a residence in the 4200 block of Cedar Hill rd. He immediately intervened and detained the male suspect while calling for assistance.

The off-duty officer, a 12 year veteran, remained with the suspect until on-duty Patrol officers arrived on scene. Officers then saw the suspect throw items away at the time of his arrest.

Upon retrieving the items,  there was found to be three separate containers of a crystalized substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine. There was also a coke can which was belived to have GHB inside it.

Investigation by on-duty Patrol officers revealed that there had been no break-in to the residence.

The suspect, a 34 year old male Saanich resident who is well known to police, was arrested and released to attend court in the near future.  A significant quantity of drugs were recovered and charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking are being considered.
