What is Block Watch?
This is a national crime prevention program that serves as a model
for home and business security in an effort to prevent property
crime. Block Watch facilitates communication between neighbors,
neighborhoods and the police. Within the Saanich Municipality
this crime prevention/community policing program is operated out
of the Block Watch Office at the Saanich Police Department (250-475-4365).
How does Block Watch work?
Block Watch is a neighbour-helping-neighbour program. Residents
on a block form a communication chain aided by a block map of
names, numbers and addresses. They watch out for each other's
homes and report suspicious activity to the police and to each
other to reduce the likelihood of residential crime. Volunteer
Area Coordinators provide information to area Captains through
callouts from the Block Watch office.

Guidelines are now available on line for the program, as well
as volunteer task descriptions for all participants. Getting Started.
