The Saanich Police Major Crimes Detectives, with the assistance of the Central Saanich Police and Lower Mainland municipal IHIT members, continue their investigation into the RCMP involved shooting which occurred March 2nd in Surrey.
Yesterday, late in the day, the autopsy of the deceased, Adam Brian Purdie, was completed. The autopsy concluded that death was as a result of a gun shot wound.
The investigation is continuing over the weekend. Many civilian and police witnesses have already been interviewed.
We now know more details about how this incident unfolded. The initial traffic stop of Adam Purdie by an RCMP officer happened at 16th ave and Best st. in south Surrey, near Peace Arch Memorial Hospital. The officer observed an assault rifle in the white Chrysler 300 driven by Purdie, as the vehicle fled the scene.
Purdie’s Chrysler 300 then contacted a spike belt deployed by an officer at the intersection of Highway #10 and the King George Highway. The Chrysler then collided with a red Ford Escape. The Ford Escape left the roadway and drove over a bus shelter.
Purdie’s Chrysler 300 was then deliberately contacted by an RCMP vehicle. It was forced to the side of the roadway leading to the lethal force encounter.
One of the occupants of the red Ford Escape was taken to the hospital with minor injuries as a result of the collision and was later released.
