Just after 10pm on Saturday night, February 5th, a speeding truck entered two businesses at Quadra street and Tattersall drive. One of those businesses was the constituency office of Elizabeth May.
Saanich Police Traffic Safety Unit officers arrived on scene to conduct the investigation.
The investigation at the scene revealed that the vehicle was travelling south bound on Quadra street at a high rate of speed. The driver realized that he needed to make a right hand turn onto Tattersall drive. The truck lost control while braking which caused it to leave the roadway, go over the sidewalk and into the building.
The 17 year old new driver of the truck was charged with the motor vehicle act offence of ‘Driving Without Due Care and Attention’. Luckily, nobody was injured.
Damage was severe and is expected to cost thousands of dollars to repair.
