Yesterday, the Red Robbin restaurant general manager contacted the Saanich Police as one of their debit pads had gone missing.
The pad was found to have been taken after 9pm the prior night. There are no suspects in the theft.
The pad is described as a Moneris Solutions, VeriFone model #VX 670.
Retailers and restaurants in our community are reminded that fraudsters are at work targeting PIN pads. The best way to avoid fraud or tampering is to ensure that the pads are fastened to counters and an anti-tamper sticker is affixed to the case. Ensure that all staff are educated in avoiding theft or tampering issues with your debit pads.
If anybody knows anything about this theft or similar crimes, they are encouraged to contact the Saanich Police. If you are a small retailer or a restaurant in our community and you want information about avoiding these types of incidents, please contact Cst. Petra Dornblut of the Saanich Police Crime Prevention office at 250-475-4321.
