Yesterday, just after lunch, surprised motorists reported a driverless truck travelling south bound on the Pat Bay hwy in Royal Oak.
Saanich Police arrived on scene to find that a one ton commercial truck had gone off the road on the west side of the Pat Bay hwy in Royal Oak.
Witnesses at the scene had observed a driverless truck travelling south bound on the Pat Bay hwy. The truck ended up off the roadway on the grassy shoulder with little damage.
Officers at the scene were approached a short time later by a driver of the truck who had a double-double in hand. As it turned out, the driver had improperly parked his truck on the side of the Pat Bay hwy while he and his passenger went to a local coffee establishment for a pick-up.
A violation ticket for Failing to Park off the Roadway was issued to the driver with a penalty of $109.00

Luckily nobody was hurt in this incident and the truck was recovered at the owner’s expense.
