A suspect has now been arrested in a Saanich armed robbery which occurred on June 6th, near Quadra and Cook Streets.
On June 6th, at around 9:30pm, the Saanich Police were contacted about a male who had been assaulted during an attempted robbery at the rear of the Bank of Montreal on Cook street.
The caller, a third party, had become concerned when they had heard a commotion at the rear of the bank. Then a blood trail was noticed in the parking lot and onto a trail that led up Clovelly Terrace to the rear.
Saanich Police Patrol officers responded to the area and followed the blood trail to a residence in the 1100 block of Clovelly Terrace where they located the victim.
The victim had been approached by a male while walking to an area bus stop. The male suspect lashed out at the victim striking him twice in the side of the head while demanding his belongings. The victim then fought back with the suspect who ran away towards Quadra street.
The victim, a 19 year old Oak Bay resident, sustained significant injuries during the robbery. They included two gashes on the left side of his head, one required 13 staples and the other five staples, to close the wounds. The victim also sustained a broken wrist during the melee.
Evidence recovered by Saanich Police Forensic Technicians at the scene of the robbery led to the identification of a suspect. A local Saanich youth, 15 years of age, has now been arrested and is to appear in court.
The youth is well known to local police agencies and was at large under supervision of the courts. Charges include Aggravated Assault and Robbery.
