Prank Gone Bad

Early yesterday morning, Saanich Police were called to investigate a series of egging incidents.

A total of seven different complainants contacted the Saanich Police about incidents with eggs in the municipality. These incidents began at about 11pm Sunday evening and continued into the early morning hours of Monday.

Both people and property were struck with eggs thrown by a group of youths. Some reports included a description of the vehicle being used by the youths.

At approximately 03:30 hours, an area patrol officer was flagged over by a cab on McKenzie avenue. The driver advised the officer that his cab had been egged by a group of youths near the Goose Trail at McKenzie ave.

Two patrol officers walked the Goose Trail and found four young males who all admitted their involvement.

Four youths from the Victoria area, all 16-17 years of age, were arrested for mischief. All four took responsibility for their actions and expressed remorse. Parents of all four were contacted by police and arrived at the police headquarters.

“Apparently all four of these young men were baseball players, which explained the high degree of accuracy. It is just through luck that none of the people struck were injured,” says Sgt. Dean Jantzen.

None of the four young males were known to police and charges of mischief are being considered.
