The Saanich Police have a plan which includes a robust uniformed officer presence for the weekend. Officers will be focused on impaired drivers, mischief related behaviour and open liquor consumption for the weekend evenings.
It is expected that there will be an increase in parties and groups of revellers for Friday and Saturday evenings. Officers will be dedicated to responding to problem parties. Officers will take an educational approach with regard to the noise bylaw, if they are called to your home the first time. If our officers have to come back a second time, a fine will be issued under the bylaw.
The fireworks bylaw will also be in effect. It is not lawful to ignite fireworks without obtaining authorization and taking a safety course through the Saanich Fire Department. A zero tolerance approach will be taken for the misuse of fireworks.
Monday evening when your children go out trick or treating, make sure they are as safe as possible. Some children’s safety tips include:
- Ensure that your child’s vision is not overly impaired
- Make sure they wear bright clothing and that there is no trip hazard
- Dress appropriately for the weather and wear good footwear
- Be mindful of traffic and use crosswalks
- Trick or treat in groups in well lit areas with adult supervision
Saanich Police officers will be out on Monday evening in force to ensure safety for all pedestrians and motorists. Officers will be looking for impaired drivers and for vehicles being driven in an unsafe manner.
Let’s have a safe and ‘spooktacular’ weekend.
