An impaired driver with her 6yr old daughter in the car struck a construction vehicle last evening.
Just before 10pm last night, multiple 911 callers reported an accident in the 4800 block of the Pat Bay hwy. Patrol officers responded to find that a green Ford Explorer had struck a construction lighted sign trailer still attached to a truck warning of an active work crew on the roadway.
Multiple witnesses remained on the scene to speak with officers. Information revealed that witnesses had concerns about the vehicle just prior to the accident. It had been seen stopped at a stoplight and when the light changed it remained at a stop. Witnesses also stated that the Explorer did not attempt to brake prior to colliding with the trailer.
The driver was arrested at the scene for impaired operation of a vehicle and was returned to Saanich Police headquarters. Breath samples revealed almost three times the legal limit. The driver, a 27yr old Saanichton resident, was also found to have never had a driver license.
The driver’s six year old daughter was in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Luckily, there were no injuries. Family members picked up the daughter from the scene.
Investigators contacted the Ministry of Children and Families to advise them of concerns.
