Dangerous erratic driver arrested in Saanich

At approximately 2:30pm on December 4th, Saanich Police received several 911 calls regarding an erratic driver near the intersection of Wilkinson road and Interurban road. A Caucasian male driving a silver Nissan Maxima was observed driving into oncoming traffic and doing ‘doughnuts’ on the roadway.

Saanich Police Patrol and Traffic Safety Unit officers responded into the area. The vehicle was located and then deliberately tried to strike a Patrol officer’s vehicle. Responding officers did not engage in a pursuit with the vehicle given the danger to the public. The surrounding blocks were contained by Patrol officers and spike belts were deployed.

The driver ultimately crashed in the 600 block of Willowbrook place in Saanich only after causing thousands of dollars in property damage. The driver then fled and was apprehended by a police canine.

The driver was transported to hospital where he received treatment for his injuries. Luckily, nobody else was injured in this incident.

Charges being considered are Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code. If you were a witness or have information about this incident please contact the Saanich Police non-emergency line at 250-475-4321.
