Thursday afternoon, a warehouse employee mistook sounds of a copper thief for a rat.
On Thursday, Jan. 5th, 2012, an employee in the warehouse of Wolesley Mechanical, located at Blanshard street and Cloverdale avenue, heard what he thought was a rat. This is not an unusual situation in the warehouse.
The employee opened an exterior door to find a male suspect hiding in the yard. The suspect was confronted and was told that the police were being called and he fled on a bike.
The suspect is described as 5’10” tall, approximately 220lbs, wearing a brown jacket and a toque.
Investigation at the scene revealed that entry had been forced into the warehouse by prying some metal siding and removing some of the insulation. A bag of copper tubing appeared to have been readied for stealing, but was left behind.
Also left by the thief was a plastic bag including some tools used during the break-in, a set of bolt and wire cutters.
