Last night, at about 8:45pm, Saanich Police were contacted by the Walmart store at Uptown Centre. Store security had arrested a male for shoplifting.
Officers arrived and took the 54 year old male, of no fixed address, into custody. He is well known to local agencies across the region.
Store security confirmed that the suspect had been walking through the store changing from his personal clothes into new clothes selected from the shelves. In his words to the arresting officer “…his clothes were wet and what other choice did he have…”
As it turned out, investigators confirmed that the suspect had been arrested at 7:15 pm by the Victoria Police at the BC Liquor store on Hillside ave. He had been released on documents charged with theft.
Further, at 1am the suspect had been reported as stealing from the Tim Hortons on Ravine way.
The male was held in custody overnight to appear in Victoria Provincial court today.
