Late last week, detectives swore more charges in an ongoing firearms investigation.
Friday afternoon, March 16th, detectives swore an additional six counts against Lucky Jhagra, a 40 year old Saanich resident.
The six counts were offences contrary to section 99 of the Criminal Code- trafficking in firearms. Punishment for this section is up to 10 years, but carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 3 years on a first offence and 5 years on a second offence.
These charges stem from a production order served for documents held by the Canadian Firearms Registry. This led to uncovering a number of firearms which had been transferred by Jhagra. Six of those have now been recovered locally and more are being sought by detectives across the country.
It appears that these firearms were placed on websites for gun enthusiasts, which is how they were sold.
Friday, a Canada wide warrant was issued for Jhagra. Late morning yesterday, Jhagra turned himself in at the Saanich Police headquarters. He remained in custody overnight last night and will appear today in Victoria Provincial Court.
The investigation continues with the assistance of the Chief Provincial Firearms Officer, the RCMP and other police services across the country.
