Saanich Detectives investigate collsion

Late in the day yesterday the Saanich Police were requested to investigate a crash involving a Duncan RCMP vehicle, in Duncan.

Just after 7pm Sunday evening, the collision occurred between an RCMP vehicle and a car at the intersection of the Trans Canada highway and Miller road in Duncan.

At the time of the collision the RCMP vehicle was traveling southbound on the Trans Canada highway. A Hyundai Accent being driven northbound, made a left turn to travel west on Miller Road. The vehicles collided in the intersection.

The Saanich Police have investigators responding to investigate this incident as of this morning. These include two Major Crimes Investigators, a Forensic Investigator and a Crash Analyst.

The Duncan detachment officer has 2.5 years of service. He largely received bumps and bruises as a result of the collision. Some concerns about more serious injuries have now been ruled out by doctors.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 23 year old female, remains in hospital as of this morning, with injuries to her head.

Given the seriousness of the crash and the significant damage to the vehicles, the South Island Traffic Services responded to the scene with their Collision Investigation Team. The initial at scene work was done by the RCMP crash analysts.
