Once again Saanich is confirmed by Stats Canada as an extremely safe place to live, work, play, raise a family and go to school.
In 2011 we ranked as number 203 out of 239 jurisdictions in the overall Crime Severity Index. In 2010 we were ranked 178, a reduction of 25 placements this year.
Our overall Crime Severity Index score for 2011 was 44.5. In 2010, the score was 57.3, a reduction of about 12%.
The Crime Severity Index is an index designed to assess the relative severity of different offences. Each offence is assigned a weighted score with the most severe with the highest value. These are then multiplied by the volume and divided by the population.
