Theft from Tour de Rock Fundraiser

Police are looking for the unknown person who stole a donated gift basket from a Tour de Rock – Cops for Cancer fundraising event at the Pearkes Recreation Centre today (Friday, August 24th).

The gift basket had been kindly donated to Cops for Cancer by the Changing Times Hair Salon, located in Tillicum Centre.

The basket was wrapped in cellophane and contain a large assortment of hair care products. The retail value is estimated at $180.

Sometime during the noon hour set-up for the fundraising event and barbecue, someone entered a back door at the recreation centre and made off with the donation.

Police are going to be reviewing surveillance video in hopes of identifying the suspect(s).

This fundraiser was sponsored by the Edges on Ice hockey training program.

Funds from the basket were going to have supported the fundraising efforts of two of this year’s riders – Constable Niki Hodgkinson of Saanich Police and honourary rider Matt Webb, who himself is a survivor of childhood cancer.

Police need a tip from the public to help solve this theft. Please call Saanich Police at 250-475-4321 or Greater Victoria CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) with any information.
