Paws and reflect

As the seasons change so do some of the restrictions placed upon our four legged residents in the community. Although some restrictions at area beaches are eased, you are still required to maintain control of your animal at all times. Here are some of the highlighted restrictions for dogs:

• Dogs must be leashed at all times on all school grounds, Cedar Hill Golf course, Rithets bog and all ball diamonds until the end of October

• Dogs are entirely prohibited in Quicks Bottom park and Swan Lake/Christmas Hill Sanctuary given the sensitive habitat

• All dogs must be licensed- obtain one at any Saanich Recreation Centre or the Municipal Hall. The fine for not having a license is $150.

Bears:

We know that bears are out foraging to help fatten themselves up for the winter months. Increased activity in the rural areas of the community is expected. Attractants for bears include fruit trees, BBQ’s and garbage containers.

Deer:

The fall rutting season is almost upon us which means that deer behaviour might be out of the norm. Drivers are advised that deer may cross the roads unexpectedly so drive accordingly. Pedestrians, especially those with dogs, are encouraged to give deer a wide berth.
