At approximately 0245 a.m., Saanich Police Patrol officers observed a vehicle fail to stop and flee from their location after an attempted traffic stop.
While on patrol in the 3300 block of Quadra Street, officers observed a vehicle travelling with no headlights. When officers pulled in behind and attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated and failed to stop as required.
Officers followed the vehicle at a distance and observed the vehicle come to rest near the intersection of Quadra and Mckenzie Avenue. The vehicle appeared to stop as a result of a mechanical breakdown.
An 18 year old male and 17 year old female, both both residents of Langord, were arrested. Investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the evening from an address in Langford.
The two occupants were known to each other and had previously been released on court imposed conditions to have no contact with each other. A machette was found within the vehicle and is believed to belong to the suspects.
Both occupants were held to appear in court on a number of recommended charges including Possession of Stolen Property, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer, and Breach of a Recognizance.
