On Sunday, March 24, at approximately 10:30 pm, a 17 year old youth was assaulted and robbed of his personal effects in the 3900 block of Holland Avenue.
The youth had recently disembarked from a transit bus in the area and was walking home while listening to music with earphones.
Without notice, the youth was pushed to the ground from behind by three unknown suspects. The youth was punched and kicked by the suspects before they demanded the youth to give up any personal effects. When the youth refused, one of the suspects reached into the pocket of the youth and stole a music device, a cell phone, and a bus pass. The three suspects then fled on foot towards Helmcken Road.
The 17 year old victim sustained minor injuries as a result of this attack, was examined by the Provincial Ambulance Service, and did not require further medical assistance.
The primary assailant involved in this incident was described as a male, 19 to 20 years of age, with brown hair (described to be the long version of a “Justin Beiber” cut). This suspect was wearing a red baseball cap with the letters “DC” in white on the front of the cap, along with a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
The description of the other two suspects was vague, with the age being unknown, the hair colour as blonde, and possibly wearing jeans.
Investigation into this incident in ongoing. Â
“It would appear in this incident that the youth was unaware of the presence of the suspects until after being pushed to the ground. The use of the earphones may have prevented the youth victim from hearing the assailants approach” Sgt. Steve Eassie says.  “Music devices should be kept at reasonable sound levels so that the ability to hear things around us is not impaired, which in turn, may allow someone to react to things that may pose a risk”.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321, or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS(8477).
