Two men were arrested near the scene of a reported break and enter to a residence this morning that was reported just before 3:30 am.
Police were contacted by a witness who reported that he had observed two males fleeing from a residence in the 700 block of Sayward Road. At least one of the males was observed to be carrying a bicycle from that location.
Numerous police members responded and contained the area while a Saanich Police K9 officer responded to assist. During the search for the suspects, approximately $40,000 worth of property was located and appeared to have been stashed in the bushes on a nearby property by the suspects. The search also located a thirty-two (32) year old suspect, as well as a fifty (50) year old suspect, both residents of Saanich.
Investigation revealed that the suspects appeared to have entered the locked residence in the dark of night. The portion of the residence that was entered was not occupied at the time of the incident.
The property taken from the residence included several complete high end racing style bicycles, bicycle frames, and other various sporting equipment. It would appear at this time that all of the property stolen from the residence was recovered.
Both suspects were arrested, returned to the Saanich Police Department, and later released from custody on a number of conditions. Both males are expected to make their first court appearance in late June 2013.
Charges of Breaking and Entering and Committing Theft are being sought for both males.
