SAANICH, BC. The Saanich Police Board today (Friday, October 25) named R. A. (Bob) Downie as Chief Constable of the Saanich Police Department. Downie will assume the position of Chief Constable on February 1, 2014, when Chief Constable Mike Chadwick retires.
Deputy Chief Downie began his career with the Saanich Police Department in 1982 and moved up steadily through the ranks to his current position of Deputy Chief Constable in August 2009.
He has received the Police Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada, the Police Honours Medal for Meritorious Service, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to the professionalism of policing in Canada.
Saanich Police Board Chair Mayor Frank Leonard said, “The Saanich Police Board and members of the Department are proud of Deputy Chief Downie’s 31 years of service and congratulate Bob on his promotion to Chief Constable. We are confident his leadership will uphold the respect, integrity, and trust the Saanich Police Department earns every day.”
