An intrusion alarm at a business in the 800 block of Cloverdale Avenue in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 12, led to the arrest of a 24 year old suspect that was still within the business upon the arrival of police.
Shortly after midnight, Saanich Police were notified of a commercial intrusion alarm at Wolseley Mechanical, located at the corner of Cloverdale Avenue and Blanshard Street.
Within minutes, police arrived at the commercial building and noted a broken window at the front of the business. Containment around the building was established and it was observed by one of the attending officers that a person could be seen within the business.
A Saanich Police K9 team responded to the building to assist. Despite several warnings, the suspect refused to surrender to police. The K9 team and other officers entered the building and located 24 year old, Joshua MUNDY, hiding within the business.
MUNDY was observed to have significant injuries to his arms which were believed to have been caused when he climbed through the broken window. The Provincial Ambulance Service assisted with initial treatment of MUNDY and he was transported to hospital and later released into police custody.
MUNDY, who was believed to be from the Nanaimo area, was held in custody to appear in court. Charges of Break and Enter and Commit Indictable Offence and Possession of a Controlled Substance have been approved.
