A late evening altercation between two males at a party on New Years Eve resulted in one man having multiple stab wounds to his abdomen.
At approximately 11:40 p.m., Saanich Police were requested to attend to an apartment building in the 3200 block of Cook Street to assist the Provincial Ambulance Service. A call had been received from someone inside the building that indicated that a male had been stabbed and was bleeding profusely.
Upon arrival at the complex, police located at 34 year old Langford resident with obvious signs of bleeding from multiple wounds. Investigators determined that the injuries were likely caused by the victim being stabbed during a brief altercation with another person that had been at the same small gathering.
Numerous witnesses were located inside the building and police began looking for a person of interest, namely 27 year old Andrew Jeffrey Mclean. Mclean was not located that evening.
On January 1st, 2014, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Mclean was located at the bus terminal in downtown Victoria and arrested by members of Saanich Police. Mclean was held in custody and appeared in court on January 2. Mclean is next scheduled to appear in court in mid-January.
Based on the information obtained by investigators to date, Crown has approved charges of Attempted Murder and Uttering Threats against Mclean.
The 34 year old victim was transported to hospital and underwent surgery to prevent further internal bleeding. The victim remains in hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
