Saanich Police Detectives are investigating how a male in his early fifties ended up in the Gorge Waterway on Wednesday afternoon.
Just after 3:30 p.m., a call for assistance was received by VICPD, reporting that a male was in the Gorge waterway and appeared to be in need of assistance. VICPD members were able to arrive on scene quickly and noted what appeared to be one male on a floating dock on the north side of the Gorge Waterway, close to the Tillicum bridge.
VICPD quickly observed that the male appeared to be holding and attempting to pull out another male that was in the water. VICPD and Paramedics were able to assist in removing the unidentified and unconscious male from the waterway.
Life saving efforts were immediately commenced and the male was later transported to hospital in serious and life threatening condition.
It is still very early in the investigation and investigators are attempting to determine how the male came to be in water. Investigators will be following up with possible witnesses to this incident.
The location is being held as possible crime scene until investigators have an opportunity to attempt to determine what transpired. It is believed that there may have been others in the immediate vicinity of this incident at the time that it occurred.
