The Saanich Police Department Detective Section are investigating a possible stabbing that occurred in the late evening hours of Wednesday, July 9th.
Shortly after 10 p.m., calls were received reporting that an apparent altercation had occurred, and that a male victim had been injured. Police arrived and located a 35 year old Saanich area resident that had suffered what appeared to be several injuries which were consistent with injuries inflicted by an apparent edged weapon of some description.
The male victim was transported to hospital where he underwent emergency procedures. The victim remains in hospital and his condition is stable.
Investigators will be conducting inquiries throughout the neighbourhood to determine if anyone may have seen anything. Investigators will also be following up with the victim to determine what led up to this incident, as well as what actually transpired.
Rainbow Park, a small park near the corner of Rainbow Street and Mckenzie Avenue, remains behind police tape while investigators continue to piece togther the circumstances of the event.
“The area has been searched for any weapons that may be related to this incident, however, nothing yet has been located” said Sgt. Steve Eassie. “This is normally a quiet residential area, and an area where we have had few prior calls for service. This is not the kind of incident that we would have expected to occur in this area”.
