Saanich Police are asking the public to be on the look out for a high end kite board and accessories that were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 5600 block of West Saanich Road on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
On Sunday, an area resident reported that two vehicles that had been parked at the family home were entered overnight. One of the vehicles was missing about 75 cents. The other vehicle was missing an estimated $7500 in personal property, including a kite board and accessories.
“One of the vehicles entered was owned by a person that was visiting people at the home” Sgt. Steve Eassie said. “Much of the property taken relates directly to the sport of kite boarding, including a board, a sail, a harness, and clothing such as boots and wetsuits”.
Saanich has seen a rash of recent thefts from autos in various areas over the past month, however, this incident appears to differ from the norm. “Most of the vehicles being entered have been left unlocked, allowing easy access” Sgt. Eassie says. “That is consistent in both of these cases as well. The difference in this case is that beyond spare change, the suspects have taken a large quantity of personal items and sporting gear that would have likely required a vehicle to transport the items”.
The list of items missing from the vehicle includes the following:
Air Rush Kite Board – 158 cm length with yellow and black design
Cabrinha Kite – red and white 10 meter kite, model Switch Blade
Dakine Kite Board Harness – Black
Neil Pryde Wet Suit – full body mens wetsuit 5/6 mm, black in colour
Anyone who has knowledge of the circumstances of this theft, or with information relating to the whereabouts of the stolen property, as asked to call Saanich Police at 250-475-4321, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
