Saanich Police are investigating a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11th in the 3300 block of Douglas Street.
Investigation so far has determined that the male was walking on the west sidewalk when, without warning, the male walked into the travel portion of the roadway. The male was immediately struck by a four door sedan that had been travelling southbound on Douglas Street.
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, a 49 year old female, was not injured and remained at the scene.
The pedestrian suffered serious and life threatening injuries. He was transported to the Victoria General Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The southbound lanes of Douglas Street were closed from the time of the collision until approximately 11:00 p.m. for members of the Collision Analyst Reconstruction Team to conduct investigation into the incident.
The pedestrian has not yet been identified. The male, who is estimated to be between 50 and 60 years of age, was reported to have been panhandling in the area just prior to this incident. He is described as Caucasian, approximately six feet tall and weighing about 150 to 160 pounds. At the time of the collision, he was wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, a blue sweatshirt and grey work socks.
