Saanich Police are warning residents of a neighbourhood near Tillicum Mall to ensure that their outbuildings such as garages and sheds are secure due to a number of thefts that have occurred in the area.
Since November 2, 2014, there have been a total of eight (8) residences that have reported that a a shed or a garage have been entered and property taken. All of the incidents have occurred in the late evening and early morning hours.
Of the incidents reported to date, five (5) incidents have occurred in the 300 block of Obed Avenue, two (2) incidents have occurred in the 400 block of Davida Avenue, and one (1) incident occurred in the 400 block of Ker Avenue.
“Given the close proximity of where these thefts have taken place, the method of entry, and the similarities in what has been taken, it is believed that these incidents are likely related to one another” Sgt. Steve Eassie said.
It would appear that the target of the thieves has been power tools and bicycles. In at least five of these locations, the buildings have been left unlocked and not secure. It the remaining locations, the locking mechanisms were easily defeated due to age or design.
“We would encourage anyone that lives in this area, or any area for that matter, to ensure that if they have an outbuilding on their property, that they have it properly secured to prevent unwanted individuals from entering” Sgt. Eassie said.
Police are asking that area residents be on the lookout for suspicious activity and to report the activity to Police when it is observed.
Anyone with information about any of these incidents are encouraged to contact Saanich Police at 250-475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
