Saanich Police are once again reminding area residents to ensure that their residences and vehicles are secured at all times.
While the overall numbers for property crimes do not appear to be on the increase, there have been a few significant incidents in the past ten days.
On Saturday, March 14th, a break and enter to a residence was reported. The incident occurred in the 900 block of Mcbriar Avenue and was believed to have occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. while the residence was occupied.
Investigation revealed that a ground level window had been broken which would have allowed access to the home. Thankfully, it did not appear that anything was missing from the residence.
On Friday, March 20th, an attempted break and enter to a residence was reported. This incident occurred in the 1800 block of Townley Street and was believed to have occurred in the early morning hours while the residence was occupied.
Investigation revealed that an unknown suspect had removed a exterior window screen and had attempted to force open a partially open window. An aftermarket lock on the window prevented it from being opened to the point where entry could have been gained.
“We continue to receive reports of thefts from vehicles throughout the Municipality” Sgt. Steve Eassie said. “Although the numbers of thefts are relatively low, in the majority of cases, the vehicles have been left unlocked. It is possible that by simply locking the vehicle that some of these thefts would have been prevented”.
Saanich Police are asking area residents to be on the lookout for suspicious activity in the neighbourhood, and to report the activity to police as soon as possible.
