Victoria BC – Officers from Saanich Police and VicPD will be holding a brief ceremony today in front of VicPD Headquarters at 1:30 p.m., for the raising of the Saanich Police flag, following the Battle of the Badges challenge hockey game that took place on Tuesday night.
Saanich Police Watchdogs were victorious over the VicPD Capitals, with a final score of 3 – 1. It was a very closely matched game with an empty net goal taking place with under 30 seconds left in the game.
As per the standing challenge agreement, the winning team’s flag will be hoisted and flown in front of the challenger’s office over the course of the weekend.
This year, VicPD Chief Frank Elsner and Saanich Police Chief Bob Downie will be raising the flag.
This event, which has taken place for three consecutive years, is in support of Special Olympics of British Columbia. This year, the donations and fundraising so far has raised $3300, which will be presented to Special Olympics BC to support their program and athletes.
