Saanich Police are investigating an incident that took place on a trail in the wooded area behind Pearkes Arena, near Cuthbert Holmes Park.
At approximately 3:45 this afternoon, two teenaged youths were approached by three unknown suspects in the park. During a verbal exchange between the two groups, an edged weapon is alleged to have been brandished and used to threaten the victims.
The victims were able to flee the area on foot. The victims were not harmed and did not suffer any injuries.
There was a slight delay in reporting the incident to police while the victims sought assistance from a nearby place of business.
Saanich Police responded to the area to set up containment and a K9 officer and partner were deployed. The suspects were not located.
“At this time, there is no known motive for this incident” Sgt. Steve Eassie said. “Investigators will be following up with the victims to determine further information”.
The three suspects were described as Caucasian males, 18 to 25 years of age, wearing hooded sweatshirts, with their faces covered.
Saanich Police are warning people that use the park to be on alert, and if possible, walk in numbers and with a cellular phone. Any suspicious activity should be reported to police.
Anyone who may have witnessed anything relating to this event, or who may have information, are asked to contact the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
