****Updated 2015-09-10 *** Grant Christopher BARKER has turned himself in to the BC Sheriff’s Office at the Victoria Provincial Courthouse as of this morning. BARKER has been arrested and will be detained while he awaits an appearance before a Judge. ***
On September 06, 2015 Saanich Police commenced an investigation pertaining to the inadvertent release from custody of Grant Christopher BARKER who was an inmate at Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre.
BARKER, a 30 year old male from the Victoria area is believed to still be in the greater Victoria area. BARKER is a First Nations male approximately 5’6″, 180 lbs with Black hair and some facial hair. BARKER was last seen wearing a black zip up hooded sweater, black shorts and white and black running shoes. (Photo attached.)
Details of how BARKER was able to leave the institution are not being released at this time as the investigation is currently ongoing.
On September 07, 2015 charges of Escape Lawful Custody and Identity Fraud were sworn before a Judicial Justice of the Peace and a warrant of arrest was issued for Grant Christopher BARKER.
It is not believed there is any imminent risk to the public as a result of this incident, However should anyone in the community see BARKER, please do not attempt to apprehend or approach him, but rather call the police immediately.
