On Oct. 4th, 2015 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Saanich Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist in the area of Glanford Avenue and Leaside Avenue
Attending officers found a motorcycle with significant damage along with a single rider suffering serious head injuries. The rider of the motorycle was transported to the Victoria General Hospital by Provincial Ambulance’s Advanced Life Support.
Saanich Police Traffic Analysts were called out to the scene to gather possible evidence that could possibly assist in determining the reason for the collision.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the lone rider may have been operating the motorcycle while under the influence of both alcohol and drugs.
The 33 year old Saanich resident had been admittted to hospital and placed into a medically induced coma. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of hospital staff, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away in the early morning hours of October 14, 2015.
The BC Coroners Service was notified of the incident and will be working with Saanich Police to review the evidence from the collision.
The identity of the motorcycle rider will not be shared at this time.
It had previously been shared that Police were attempting to locate the next of kin for the injured rider. Family have been successfully located and advised of this tragic incident.
