Saanich Police Detectives are assisting the Oak Bay Police Department with an investigation following a robbery at a bank in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue.
On Tuesday, December 15, at approximately 5:45 p.m., an unidentified male entered the TD Canada Trust and produced a note demanding money from one of the tellers working at the bank. The male fled from the bank after receiving a quantity of cash from the teller and was observed driving away from the area in a black Dodge Ram pickup truck with a dark coloured canopy on Oak Bay Avenue towards downtown.
The suspect did not produce a weapon and made no threats towards staff at the bank. At the time of the incident, there were no other customers within the bank.
The suspect was described as a Caucasian male, 25 to 30 years of age, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a stocky build. At the time of the incident the suspect was wearing a high visibility work coat, dark in colour with horizontal and vertical green/white reflective stripes, a camouflage hat, safety glasses and work gloves.
“We believe that the vehicle used in this incident may be related to the report of a theft of a vehicle reported to police earlier this same day” Sgt. Steve Eassie said. “The vehicle description of the stolen truck matches that of the vehicle used to flee the area by the suspect”.
Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a black coloured 2013 Dodge Ram pickup, equipped with a black canopy, bearing BC licence plate HH1345, reported stolen to Saanich Police at approximately 7:30 a.m. earlier the same day.
“Anyone that sees the vehicle is asked to contact police immediately to provide details of the location and the actions of the vehicle and occupants” Eassie said. “We would caution any witnesses that have thoughts about confronting anyone that may be in or around this vehicle, and ask that they instead inform police as soon as possible.”
Video surveillance photos of the suspect have been obtained from the bank and will form part of the investigation. The photos will not be released to the public at this time, however, may be released in the future if the suspect cannot be identified by investigators.
Anyone that may have information about this incident are asked to contact the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477).
