Fire on Cedar Hill Rd

At 8:30pm on May 23rd, 2016 the Saanich Police received several 911 calls about a large structure fire in the 4000 block of Cedar Hill Rd.  Police, Fire and Ambulance all responded and found a townhouse complex engulfed in flames.

The fire is still being attended to by Saanich Fire, Victoria Fire and Oak Bay Fire.  It is expected that they will be on scene ensuring it is fully extinguished for several more hours.

Occupants from the townhouse complex were evacuated and have been provided shelter and aid from emergency social services.  Thanks to BC Transit for providing temporary shelter for evacuees, while overnight arrangements were being made.

BC Hydro has cut power to approximately 100 people around the fire scene until it is deemed safe to reconnect.  Power could be back on to homes unaffected by the fire in the early morning  hours of May 24th.

Road closures along Cedar Hill Rd and Shelbourne St, from McKenzie Ave to Feltam Ave will continue.  People are asked to find alternate routes until it is safe to open these sections of road.

Saanich Police and Saanich Fire are investigating this fire to determine it’s cause.  At this time there have been no reports of injuries, although there is significant structural damage to the buildings.

Saanich Police want to thank our neighbouring Departments – Victoria Police, Oak Bay Police and Central Saanich Police, for all of their assistance.
