Prolific Offender Arrested for B&E’s

Over the past few weeks Saanich Police received 9 reports of Break & Enters in various neighbourhoods north of Vanalman Rd. The B&E’s occurred during various times of the day and entry was gained through either insecure second floor windows or forced entry.

The Saanich Police Intelligence Section and Street Crime Unit launched into an investigation to solve these crimes. A 33 year old Saanich man was identified as a person of interest and on August 18th Police watched him pawn stolen jewelry at a local Pawn Shop.  The suspect was quickly arrested after leaving the pawn shop and the stolen jewelry was later returned to the owners.

After the suspect was arrested Saanich Police obtained a search warrant for a home in the 4300 block of West Saanich Rd. Police have obtained evidence from other Break and Enters and are now examining forensic evidence.

“We would like to remind homeowners to ensure they are properly securing their homes even during the hot summer weather.” A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie said.  “Always secure your windows when you leave your home, safeguard your belongings, make sure you have a deadbolt for your exterior doors and ensure they are properly installed.”

The 33 year old Saanich man, who is known to Police, has been remanded in custody and Police are currently recommending charges of two counts of Break and Enter and one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. The suspect will appear in court on August 24, 2016 and Police will be looking at recommending further charges at that time.
