On Saturday August 20th at around 1:00PM Campus Security, at the University of Victoria, responded to an intrusion alarm at their Child Care Facility, which was not occupied.
Once at the building UVIC Campus Security located a suspect inside, called Saanich Police and then confronted the suspect. During the confrontation Security Officers were threatened and the suspect fled. Saanich Police Patrol Officers quickly arrived on scene and located the suspect hiding in bushes nearby.
“Saanich Police and the University of Victoria have an exceptional working relationship.” A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie said. “This is an excellent example of UVIC Campus Security being extra vigilant in order to reduce crime and ensure safety for their students, faculty and staff. We appreciate their assistance in capturing this prolific offender.”
Arrested was a 28 year old man from the Greater Victoria area who is known to Police. The Saanich Police Forensic Identification Section was able to connect forensic evidence from two other B&E’s in the area to this suspect. The first B&E occurred on May 16, 2016 and the second on August 17, 2016. Both of these B&E’s occurred to a business in the 2400 block of Arbutus Rd.
Police have recommended charges of 3 counts of Break and Enter, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and one count of uttering threats. After Investigators review further evidence, which was seized during the arrest, more charges may be recommended.
