On August 30, 2016 at 1:30PM Saanich Pound received information about two dogs attacking a deer in the 4300 block of Gordon Head Rd. According to the complainant two large “Samoyed-looking” dogs had chased down a deer and were attacking it.
Saanich Pound Inspectors arrived at the scene and located a young buck badly injured. The injuries were so severe the buck had to be put down. Pound Inspectors conducted a search for the dogs however they were unable to locate them.
“Dogs are pack animals however attacks like this are extremely rare.” Pound Inspector Sue Ryan said. “This is the only report we’ve received of these dogs and we would like to speak to the owner about control and containment.”
The Saanich Pound is requesting that if anyone else witnessed this attack, or if you may know the owner of the dogs, to contact the Saanich Pound at 250-475-4321.
