Saanich, BC – A prolific offender is back in police custody after he was spotted by officers spray-painting the side of Saanich municipal hall. The hall is beside Saanich Police headquarters where he was released from custody only an hour earlier.
At 10 am on Friday, July 14th, 2017, security at Uptown shopping centre contacted the Saanich Police Department to report a male who appeared intoxicated and unable to care for himself. Officers responded to find the male intoxicated by alcohol and bound by a probation order which prohibits him from possessing or consuming alcohol. He was arrested and held at SPD headquarters until later in the day. He was released when sober with charges to be considered.
Approximately one hour after his release, officers at SPD headquarters noticed the same male spray-painting the side of the adjacent Saanich municipal hall. The male was again arrested and officers found he had a small amount of drugs on him which was also contrary to his probation order conditions.
Facing charges is a 21-year-old male from Duncan, BC.
Acting Staff Sergeant Phil Davies commented: “This male’s compulsive criminal behaviour led to our decision to hold him in custody until his appearance before a Judge or Justice. We made this decision in order to protect the public from further offences. We will continue to target prolific offenders and work with the courts to prevent future offences.”
