The Greater Victoria Police Diversity Advisory Committee (GVPDAC) was established in 2002 to bring together and build trust and positive relationships among its representatives from the police departments, RCMP detachments and military police in the region along with civilian representatives from many diverse community agencies.
Community representatives are from the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA), Victoria Native Friendship Centre (VNFC), Victoria Immigrant & Refugee Centre Society (VIRCS), Victoria Pride Society, India Canada Cultural Association, African Heritage Association of Vancouver Island (AHAVI), Ismaili Faith Community, Victoria Francophone Society, Rainbow Health Cooperative & the Jewish Federation of Victoria & Vancouver Island.
The community co-chair, Moussa Magassa of the Francophone Society of Victoria, works in the Equity & Human Rights Office at the University of Victoria. The police co-chair, Staff Sergeant Scott Treble, works in the Community Engagement Division at Saanich Police Department. Both have been in their roles since the fall of 2013 and are transitioning out of their involvement with the GVPDAC. The new police co-chair effective April 1st, 2019 will be Constable Michelle Joyce of Central Saanich Police Service and the new community co-chair will be identified later during the spring.
