At 4:25 pm on February 19, 2020 a man entered Maude Hunter’s liquor store at 3810 Shelbourne Street wearing a black ski mask and approached the cashier. He produced a handgun and was able to get at the cash register. He then fled the store and ran down Shelbourne Street carrying the cash register.
Saanich officers responded immediately and contained the area to search for the suspect. While he was not located by police, witnesses in the area did see a person that matched the description of the suspect running down Shelbourne Street.
The suspect is described as male, wearing a black ski mask, black hoody, and black pants.
If anyone saw the suspect or anything suspicious taking place before, during or after the time of this robbery are encouraged to contact the Saanich Police. Furthermore, any drivers that were in the area at that time who may have dash cam footage are being asked to check the footage to see if it captured anything of the event.
“Our officers are still out gathering information, speaking to witnesses and obtaining video surveillance,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades. “Anytime there is mention of a firearm involved in an incident such as this, we treat it with the highest safety priority. We did reach out and offer support to the employee involved.”
