Between October 30 – November 7, 2020 the Saanich Police received 27 reports of vehicles being entered in the north region of Saanich, primarily in the Cordova Bay neighbourhood. Almost all of the vehicles were left unlocked and none were reported to have sustained any damage, such as broken windows or locks.
Items reported stolen included loose change, cameras, wallets, sunglasses, backpacks, and several other items of value. The suspect(s) worked quickly and have yet to be identified.
While we continue to investigate this sudden spike in thefts from vehicles, we would like to take this opportunity to remind owners of the following crime prevention tips:
- Make it a nightly habit at 9pm to check on your vehicle.
- Make sure nothing is left in plain sight.
- Remove all valuable and personal items.
- Lock and secure you vehicle.
If you can remember to lock your vehicle and remove all items from plain sight, the thief is likely to move on to the next vehicle in the neighbourhood. While an empty duffle bag in the backseat may have little value to you, a thief will almost certainly want to see what’s inside.
