On Sunday, December 13, 2020, at 11:12 a.m. the Saanich Police received a report of a single-vehicle collision in the southbound lanes of the 5100 block of Hwy 17. We have determined that the driver of the vehicle lost control on the wet roads and veered off the road to the right, contacting a utility pole and then over the embankment. Both the male driver and female passenger were taken by ambulance to the hospital with injuries that later turned out to be minor and non-life-threatening.
Due to the utility pole and hydro lines involved, the southbound lanes were closed to traffic for 25 minutes and re-opened at 12:00 p.m. Investigators suspect that heavy rain and wet roads played a factor in this collision, along with speed. Officers are looking to speak to anyone that might have witnessed this collision or that have dash-cam footage leading up to or capturing the events of the collision. The vehicle involved was a mid-2000’s white Chrysler 300 4-door sedan.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind drivers to adjust their speed relative to the road and/or weather conditions,
