Over the past two days, the Saanich Police and the Saanich Fire Departments have attended four dumpster fires in Saanich that are currently being investigated as arson and likely related.
On June 28 at 11:25 p.m. a small fire was lit next to a dumpster in the 3200 block of Douglas Street, followed by a fire inside a dumpster 10 minutes later just up the road in the 700 block of Tolmie Avenue.
On June 29 at 2:00 p.m. a fire was lit inside a grease bin in the 3100 block of Tillicum Road.
On June 30 at 2:45 a.m. a dumpster was lit on fire at Colquitz Middle School on Dumeresq Street.
“While all of these fires were contained to the immediate area, the hot and dry weather conditions could have easily helped these fires spread to adjacent structures. Fortunately, other than the bins themselves, no other property damage was noted.”
We encourage the public to be on the lookout for and immediately report any fires they witness by calling 9-1-1. Investigators continue to search for the suspect(s) responsible for these fires, and any information can be submitted to our officers by calling the Saanich Police non-emergency line at 250-475-4321.
