On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saanich Police received a report that a business in the 3600 blk of Shelbourne Street had been broken into. This same business had been broken into just the day before.
SPD officers and two Integrated Canine Officers attended and saw the front glass door had been smashed and the suspect was still inside the business. The suspect eventually walked outside the store at which point officers took him into custody without incident.
Once in custody, officers believed this suspect to be responsible for breaking into the store the day before and were able to locate evidence on him to confirm this to be the case.
The man, 18, is facing two counts of Break and Enter and was later released on conditions and a court date later in 2022.
“The owners of this business installed a CCTV system that alerted them with a live feed of the in-store cameras. This allowed our officers to respond to the scene as quickly as possible and were provided with timely information that ultimately resulted in this arrest.”
