SERIOUS COLLISION INVOLVING MOTORCYCLIST ON MCKENZIE AVE THIS MORNING

Date: March 29, 2022
File: 22-5959

On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 6:30 a.m. several officers and emergency services providers responded to a serious collision between two vehicles, a motorcycle and a car, on McKenzie Avenue at Arelene Place. It was reported that the motorcyclist, who was travelling eastbound on McKenzie Ave, contacted the rear portion of a vehicle that was turning left from Arelene Place. The impact resulted in the rider being thrown from their motorcycle. Several commuters stopped and remained on scene to provide assistance, including an off-duty first responder. The driver of the vehicle involved is cooperating fully with the investigation. The motorcyclist was transported to the Victoria General Hospital where their condition is believed to be very serious, but no longer life-threatening. We are offering support services to all of those affected by this incident.

As part of the investigation, our Collision Reconstruction Team required the full closure of McKenzie Avenue at Arlene Place to process the scene and retain evidence. This closure is expected to remain in place until around 12 p.m. today. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding in this lengthy closure. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
