JOGGER ASSAULTED ON COLQUITZ RIVER TRAIL

Date: April 4, 2022

Police are looking for a suspect after he assaulted a woman while she was out jogging last weekend.

On Sunday, March 27, 2022, between 1:30 – and 2 p.m. a woman, in her 30’s, was jogging along the Colquitz River Trail just south of Columbine Way when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man. The man then sexually assaulted her, causing her to stumble and fall to the ground. He then ran off toward the south end of the trail near Interurban Road.

He was described as having light skin, 6’ tall, with a slim to medium build, wearing a dark-coloured baseball hat, a grey t-shirt and dark shorts.

“This was a frightening assault that was completely random,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades. “We’re hoping that someone may have been in the Colquitz trail system last Sunday that could help identify the suspect in this incident.”

We encourage those jogging alone to be mindful of their surroundings, to carry a cell phone if possible, and call police as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321, or they can report what they know anonymously through the Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
